Lights and Letters

One of my favorite blogs belongs to artist and writer Susan Branch. A visit to her blog is like a relaxing vacation. She captures beauty indoors and outdoors. You always feel so welcome by her observations and comments.

Recently I went there in search of inspiration. And found it! She had taken a glass measuring cup, added a votive, and created a lovely radiance. Well, I looked in my kitchen cabinet for such a cup and duplicated the effect. I took another small glass and lit it up as well with a tealight. Since the Fresh Baked Cookies tealights were scented, the kitchen smelled wonderful.

Another tiny change has to do with this sign.

After using the ANTIQUES sign at the booth for a time, I decided to bring it home. I really didn't want to hang it so I folded it.

I like that I can switch the letters.

Patience

I have missed being here.

I snapped this photo so you would know I'm here at home... inside my closet that houses more than clothes.

It has always been hard for me to accept what the camera captures. Now the telltale signs of aging make it truly difficult.

.

Patiently I waited for Jo to check my computer. He had me buy some SDHC cards to store lots of photos. I marvel how those little things can hold so many pictures.

Come inside. The kitchen, den, and living room are close together. I'm using a table from my mother as a kitchen island. It was her study table as a young girl. I remember its very location in the living area at my grandparents' house. My mother used it in her guest bedroom to hold books and a collection of bird figurines.

Our house is definitely a hodge-podge of styles.
There are changes I would like to make, but
at my age you just work with what you have. Not
to mention all the memories associated with the
furnishings one has acquired over the years.

I have three battery candles on the piano top. Olga and Jo gave me a birthday gift set that had six. These three are the small votive size. They look so pretty in the evening. See the middle light...it's inside my latest Goodwill find. For one dollar I snagged the green house that says

I hope you'll come again.

This and That

Last night I lit a small votive. I had forgotten how much glow and peace one candle can provide.

Remember this recent purchase...the recipe stand

I cut this quote from October 2009 Country Living, pasted it onto some background paper(again a magazine clipping), and placed it on that stand which is now on a small candlestick table that's between the couch and recliner.

I really like the way it looks.
