Getting Closer

Since we'll soon have house guests, I thought I'd better share a few things before it gets hectic around here.

Small Changes

Although loving Christmas decorating, I can honestly say I'm glad the house is returning to its normal state. One day of after Christmas shopping turned up these finds.

 This ornament was half price.

I hung it in the kitchen window for a daily inspiration.

 

 

 

 

According to the antique shop owner, a large lot of letters came from an old Memphis school that was torn down. I chose the "S" for Sandy and the "C" for Corkey or for our last name Clowes. Two for ten dollars seemed like a fair price. Anyway loving letters the way I do, they came home to a place of honor on the mantel.

 

 

 

I hope to work on my booth this week. I added a corner cabinet and another shelving unit to my space. These were two pieces my daughter didn't take to Austin. Now that the two sewing machines have sold I need to round up some furniture replacements . Maybe my next post will take you on a visit to the booth.

All Is Calm

All is calm tonight, but tomorrow may be different with three grandboys to keep and the arrival of Lester, Pennee, and Kiera from California. Of course, come Christmas Eve our number increases even more.

Three Hours

This morning I was a responsible daughter and took my mom to her hair appointment and to the grocery store. This afternoon my dear husband practically ordered me out of the house to take some time for me. He told me he would keep an eye on my mother. The weather was great. . . in the 60's. I confess I stopped at the local antique shop. There were book sales in a couple of booths, and as you can see I purchased three hardbacks. The only other thing I bought was a tiny brown and white cup and saucer ornament that was 75% off . . . 38 cents! Those three hours and bargains on two of my favorite things (books and ornaments) helped to lift my spirits. It's therapeutic, and I highly recommend it.

I ventured out twice on this cold wintry day... to visit the post office and to photograph our front door wreath. Thankfully we didn't get sleet, snow, or ice. However, I wouldn't mind falling snowflakes on Christmas Eve. Glad you stopped by. You're always welcome.

Shopping Secret

Oh, I hope I'm not the only one who does this. While out shopping for gifts I always manage to find a few for myself. At Saturday's Christmas Open House at the local antique mall I had such a good time looking. Besides the two goodies pictured above I also found a small old wooden box in gold and green. . . loved the odd box at first sight!. . . also brought home a dull green tin that may have once been used to hold cash or documents . . . liked its color and shape.
