Wish this art had been signed. The frame alone was worth the six dollars I paid for this autumn scene. Another Lucy Flea Market find.  

Speaking of autumn, our big tree is once again sporting golden leaves. 

No real pumpkins this year...spent my money on fake ones that can sit on the doorstep next year(if I'm still here).

The orange ceramic one my mom did years ago for me, and there's a jack-o'-lantern on its other side.

I have been forgetting to post book selections. Oh, thank goodness for books!

It's nice to go away to another town, other people, and different circumstances.

This book weaves two stories together...2018/1940.

Morgan is the modern day character, and Anna is from the past.

It has to do with two of my favorite things - art and diary keeping.

 

Decisions, decisions

Often when I'm at an antique mall I spot something and can't make my mind up as to what to do - purchase, not purchase, wait. This happened to me recently at  Midsouth Marketplace. I saw a small painting for five dollars and chose to wait. However, the next day I returned to purchase.

I wanted to cover a water damaged place on  the den wall. For too long I've looked at those dark water stains and despised them. This picture worked out nicely below the opening with the folk art shorebirds.

 There's a lot to see at Marketplace. I hope people will check it out and also visit Plantation Antiques and Collectibles.  Having two antique malls in Millington is heavenly for those of us who like browsing for old and unusual things.

 Several booths had constructed mantels to add interest to their space. 

Another purchase that I had to think about was a set of vintage trouser hangers. Again I waited an extra day before making up my mind. Sometimes this backfires when that something sells and is gone. One day I might use all three in a grouping, but for now I'm using just one over in the art room.

This journal page came about today as I was using the last bit of paint from four bottles. I still like printmaking using wood blocks, round lids, and whatever else is available. 

Happy Finds

At long last I found an appealing cow print that was low priced. It's a sweet print that makes me think of simpler times. Also I had my husband in mind when searching for a cow picture. Sometimes he misses the cattle he once had.

This lightweight table with rollers was in the booth next to mine. I spotted it one day and went back for it the next. Luckily it was still there. So handy and well worth eight dollars. At night it holds a stack of pillows that I take off the master bed. At other times it will serve as a snack table for a tray of ballgame munchies.

I chose this sewing machine drawer for the pretty detailing on the front.

Not quite sure where it will be used.

Four Days

Some days are just busier than others. My focus on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday was Vacation Bible School.

Scripture lessons, videos, skits, lively songs with lots of movement, crafts, science experiments, recreation, and snacks were part of the schedule.  We had sweet kids who took part and seemed to have a great time.

I took Friday morning to go to Bartlett Antique Gallery for their summer sale.
Two round trips by all the booths proved super relaxing for me. No unique purchases...just these four everyday items.

Also that same day I stopped in at Tuesday Morning and enjoyed browsing. In the clearance section I came across this small green dish.

Saturday was another chance to browse and shop. Here's why.

For the time being son Jason is using the apartment next door. I miss my art studio space, but for now I'm using the art corner in my clothes closet. Pennee had given me this wooden box with four votive jars at Christmas, but I gave it another use. My closet space has received a makeover every few weeks as I try to organize my art supplies and other stuff.

Good Morning

What a lovely Wednesday! Perfect spring day. Spotted this greeting outside the doctor's office.

My office visit was short due to lab work only. Because of fasting I headed straight to MacDonald's for coffee and an egg and sausage biscuit. 

Next I decided to check out a small indoor flea market on the highway. Came away with two finds that were less than my breakfast food. The problem is I   like what I find so much it's hard to put them in my booth to sell. The geranium print is nicely framed, and the other scene has parts painted onto glass.

This was my first Mother's Day without my mom. On my Facebook page I wrote the following: Although I can no longer physically touch or hug my mother this Mother's Day, she is with me always. This photo of our hands is a favorite of mine.

I was glad on Mother's Day that I heard from all six(Chance, Jo and Olga, Jason, Ryan, Les and Pennee, and Lauren) in different ways. I believe Ryan surprised me the most by posting a picture on Instagram. I didn't even know he had this photo of us from years ago.

Oh, one more thing...I'm reading a book that Les and Pennee sent me. It's by Katrina Kenison - the gift of an ordinary day

I find myself underlining in pencil some touching passages.

Open House

Plantation Antiques had its Christmas Open House today, and I enjoyed being there for a couple of hours. Refreshments, door prizes, Christmas music, and sales in every booth=fun time for shoppers.

Of course, I looked around, too, and spent only six dollars on my three finds.
