Days To Treasure

Spending time with Tallulah and Etta is always a pleasure.

One of my favorite pastimes is browsing the booths at an antique mall.

Lovely pair of angels

My eyes are always drawn to highchairs and children's chairs.

These old frames were really pretty.
I seriously thought about them.

This bottle was fascinating with all the objects adhered to it.

I miss coke in the glass bottles.
Back then the taste was superb.

Have been trying to update my Simple Journaling notebook. Several months got away from me, and now I'm playing catch up.

Have also been adding pages to my second leather art journal. Love spending quiet time in the art room.

Thankful for these June days to treasure.

July Heat

On the news reporters say it's the hottest July ever. I feel for those workers who have outside jobs. Recently we attended a graveside service, and a gentleman passed out due to the oppressive heat. Thankfully he recovered. This hot weather has been unpleasant and even dangerous.

The flowerbeds are full of weeds. However, one little corner has zinnias returning from last year's planting.

A visit to Millington's Abandoned Antiques helped to lift my spirits. I still like to view the different junk/stuff/treasures in all the booth displays.

Art is another way to lift one's spirits. This time I chose to do mixed media using art tissue paper, paints, and paper cutout.

Time to turn off the computer and get some sweet sleep.

Antiquing

It's enjoyable because you never know what you will see. Here's a tiny sampling of today's browsing at Millington's Abandoned Antiques.

Just a Note or Two

Every now and then the thrifting or antiquing bug strikes. So I don my mask and keep a safe distance while browsing the aisles. Recently I found this kneeling girl sculpture. She was holding a bird in her hands. I circled around several times before deciding to get it. I have no idea about its age. I really don't care if something is old or new as long as it speaks to me.

Every now and then there's the urge to paint. Usually I change an abstract several times before I come to its completion. Layer upon layer gets added as I repaint it over and over.

"leave your troubles behind"

Tonight I'll be reading more pages of a  Nicholas Sparks book that I came across at Goodwill. The previous owner had a pretty book plate inside the book.

Ah, To Browse!

Browsing an antique store is a favorite pastime of mine. You get to see all sorts of old(and not so old)things. I only snapped a few pictures.

I am not a doll collector, but this group was photo worthy.
The one with the lavender hat and dress was my favorite due to her penetrating stare with a trace of sadness.

I paused at this whimsical painting someone had done on a piece of wood.
I think I may try something like this on an art journal page.

Really liked this cabinet of drawers, but it was another "left behind"
wonderful find.

Seeing those brown drawers made me think of Susan Branch's blog post on the color brown. It's her latest entry, and it's outstanding.

TQITB

You have heard that saying " The Quest Is The Best," and it's certainly what I enjoy. Friday afternoon before shopping for grocery essentials like bread, milk, and eggs I went browsing and took my time looking at booth after booth. Here are a few items that caught my eye.

This J was part of the name sign to a booth.

I really liked this narrow architectural piece.
But I talked myself out of it.

This garden angel made me think of spring.

I picked up two small brass owls and was about to call it a day. Then I went back to one booth I had stopped by earlier. I noticed a basket on the floor with some picture frames. I looked through them and found a piece of art. I recognized the signature and wondered could it be for real.

The $7.95 price tag encouraged me to buy it.

When I got home I checked on DeAnn Hebert's Instagram page to review her artwork. For a long time I have loved her depiction of churches, barns, dancers, and cottonfields. I've even tried to copy her style in a few of my amateur paintings. I love the way she uses blues, browns, grays, and golds.

I found the print listed and this information:
10x10 Mini "clarabelle & dolly" gallery wrapped canvas print $95

Needless to say, I was thrilled with my bargain find.

So you just never know what you will find as you take part in the quest.

Tiny Treasures

Yipes!!!! I am seeing too many lovely things when I'm out shopping. Yesterday was a fun day of browsing at three great places: Charlene's in Halls, Outside The Box and Something Special in Ripley. When I got home I had a beautiful Christmas card to open. Putting these two together in plain view on  a small shelf was perfect. The tiny tree in the tiny boot at Charlene's was too cute to leave behind as was the retro snowman with scarf and wreath.

Outside The Box had treasures, too. I decided on two ornaments from a decorated tree in one booth. The moose head and wooden turquoise ornament were my picks.

(The pretty star came from Something Special.)

The trunk and scale were nice larger items I admired.

Kim and I had a delicious lunch at Just Divine Tea Room. It was her first time to visit Charlene's Colony of Shops in Halls as well as the other shops in Ripley.
I'm glad she joined me for the drive and found some treasures, too.

My Kind of Day

It was good to have an antiquing day. It's easy to spend hours looking around inside Sheffield Antiques Mall in Collierville.

Here are views of just a few items on display.

This was my favorite item of all...an old wood mail sorter from a hotel.
Too bad I had to leave it behind. This often happens when there are lovely and unique items out of my price range. However, I selected four less expensive items - tiny clock, simple wood cross, green pitcher, and the small wood
  box pictured above.
