Friday Facts

 We were supposed to be at tonight's football game at Munford High School, but a call to get help with a locked AOL account took a very long time. Talk about exhausting. Thank goodness, the technical support person was very patient throughout the whole process. 

I love technology but hate it at the same time.

Five years ago today I was at a wedding. Lauren and Justin married in Austin, Texas, on a very warm September evening. The programs were on hand fans to help keep us cool.

Yesterday's browsing turned up two new pumpkins - one for the inside and one to  use outside. 

 While I was in the living room snapping these two fall decor photos, I decided to take a picture of my husband's collection.  I have more collections than Corkey, but he has a few. This one is very impressive.

This senior citizen is about to call it a night.

Groupings

Sometimes three... sometimes more

It's a good thing these groupings are scattered about in different rooms. Of course, I have some others, but eight examples is a good place to stop.

Do you like groupings or singular displays?

I tend to like both.

My problem is I'm running out of space.

The Pleasure of Collecting

"A collection reveals an insight into the collector. The objects that we seek,

I guess I like too many things, but some of my favorites are:

old croquet balls
dough bowls
candlesticks
paintings
pretty dishes
baskets
butter pats
creamers
pitchers
teapots
cups and saucers
pottery
crocks and bowls
books
figurines 
and 
Christmas ornaments

I'm sure I left a few things off my list, but you get the idea... I am a collector.

 There is the thrill of the hunt followed by the pleasure of building a collection. It's nice to be surrounded by objects you consider beautiful or meaningful. They also become reminders of people and places.

This early find in the college town of Jackson, TN, is both beautiful and meaningful to me.

Certain pieces speak to us, and that's the joy of collecting.

June Happenings

Many of you know by now how much I love this collection in a small wooden bowl.

The five small acorns represent children Jo, Jason, Ryan, Les, and Lauren. When Cork and I married this month twenty-one years ago, we became a blended family - his three sons and my son and daughter.

When Cork and I read the newspaper with morning coffee, this collection is in full view before me. It never fails to cheer me up each day because so many memories are connected with it.

This June I'm trying to part with objects that were once dearly loved by me or by my mother. I was at the antique store today and was happy to add and rearrange items.

Beastly heat continues here in West Tennessee. However, I don't want to complain because there's so much suffering in other parts. I am thankful for family, home, and health. Also I'm thankful for visitors and friends here at B&P. Your thoughts and comments are always welcome. Sandy

The Camera Was Handy

I'm certain you know by now that I love taking pictures. I do the best I can with my Samsung S630 model. In a "Twenty Wishes" list I would include a dynamic Nikon. Starting at the top a brief message on each of today's pictures -

• Welcome sign was stitched by a friend from the past. Sadly we have lost touch. Maybe we will reconnect one day on FB.
• Miniatures are fun to collect and don't take up a lot of space. I lean toward schoolhouses, barns, and churches.
• This handy organizer with five compartments was a recent find for four dollars.
• Three is that magic number for a collection. I've seen a lot of crosses over the years but only felt compelled to have these three. I typed the words of a favorite verse(Psalm 27:14)and placed them inside the opening of the gray cross.
• The shelf in the hallway was built by son Jason to hold some of our family pictures.
• This pitcher with the measurements has a Holly Hobbie figure on the other side. Since math was not my best subject, I keep the reminders in plain view.
• I like this rusty old scale for placing different things on top.
• I also like words and messages, especially this one on the round wooden piece. There's a sticker on the back that reads - A hand-crafted adaptation from Early American Wall Stenciling by Patricia Brown Schad, Stenciler. The small green planter that holds Splenda packets came from my mom's McCoy collection.
• The little wooden rooster is showing his age with a few nicks...something from the kitchen of my first home...the oddest things make the long haul through the decades.
