From Ordinary to Memorable

Sometimes you get a lovely unexpected surprise. An ordinary Wednesday became a day to remember. Friends from high school days paid a visit. Mary and I go way back. We used to spend overnight visits talking about boys we had crushes on. We exchanged charms for our bracelets. We once double dated. Mary married her high school sweetheart. Marriage for me would come later.

Through the years we have stayed in touch. To share so much history has been a blessing. I believe we are soul sisters.

We shared lunch and conversation at the Pig-N-Whistle restaurant in Kerrville, Tennessee.

Hopefully there will more good times together.

We need to laugh more and treasure these golden years.

While At Carriage House I looked for a gift.

Hopefully my friend can find the right photo and keepsake for this memorabilia frame.

I selected it as an anniversary gift.

Mary and Sam shared a part of their special day with us. We had time over lunch to remember some high school memories and their wedding day.

In 1967 I wrote the following words into my journal.

I regret that I didn't take pictures of Mary and Sam on their 50th anniversary. I should have insisted.

I hope they made a few photos later in the day. I also hope they know how much I admire them. 

None of us are crazy about taking pictures now that we have aged.

But here's mine after about ten tries to get one that didn't look too horrible.

November Reunion, Part 1

Usually four college friends have a summer reunion. But this year due to Pat's knee surgery in June our reunion was planned for fall. We decided to reconnect in the town where it all started. We met in 1966 in Jackson, Tennessee, at Lambuth College. Back then Jackson was a small college town, and we were young girls.  Now we're senior citizens, and Jackson is a thriving little city.

Other years were at South Hall that's been renamed.

Some classes were held inside the Administration Building.

Thankfully the college did not shut down after financial woes. The University of Memphis bought the property for an extension campus and made major improvements.

I searched the memorial bricks in the center of the campus and found one of my favorite professors, Grace Whetstone.

Although cool and breezy it was a beautiful fall day. Being on Lambuth's campus again brought back many memories from 1966-1970.

A Different Kind of Inspiration 

 

I met three high school friends on Wednesday for a luncheon reunion.

 

Knowing them back then was inspiring. Knowing them now is even more inspiring. We have experienced a lot over the years, making us stronger and wiser. Mary, Marg, Nancy, and I came together for chatter, laughter, and memories as we sat inside Rafferty's and later Starbucks.

 

The pictures below show us as young girls. Our journeys were just beginning. This was a going away party for me. Right after graduation my family moved to another town. Our paths would separate,  but communication did not stop. And now this week we gladly celebrated our friendship for another year.

Highlights

I had four wonderful days in Louisville, Kentucky. It was truly great to be with these four special friends.

Outdoor mall had gorgeous blooms and sidewalk sculptures.  

We had fun just being together, eating out, sightseeing, and shopping.  I wanted to bring this huge flower pot home, but it was out of my price range. I looked for bargains at an antique mall we visited, but didn't find them. This time the thrill of the hunt left me disappointed. Oh well, there's always next time.
