Evening Notes

I am drawn to architectural pieces. I have two in prominent places in our home. Recently I spotted this one at an antique store and wanted it, but talked
myself out of it. But it might still be there...I might weaken.

 This old rocking chair belongs to son JoJo.
It makes me think of a high school poem I once wrote.
Bravely sharing my poem tonight...

The Old Man

 In his familiar rocker
                                                           on the front porch
                                                           sat
                                                           the old man.
                                                           The back and forth
                                                           motion
                                                           ceased.
                                                           Memories from the past
                                                           flooded his mind,
                                                           and the past
                                                           became present
                                                           as he relived
                                                           sweet and painful experiences of childhood;
                                                           tender moments of first love;
                                                           trying steps into manhood;
                                                           intimacy of marriage;
                                                           and
                                                           pride of parenthood.
                                                           Returning
                                                           to the present
                                                           he found it
                                                           meaningless;
                                                           lonely;
                                                           empty.
                                                           In his familiar rocker
                                                           on the front porch
                                                           died
                                                           the old man.

Friday night we experienced an exciting game between Munford and Southwind. A record of four straight wins has pumped up enthusiasm
for the football season. Also there's excitement for the band that has an invitation to the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade.

When I attend high school games, I miss Lauren and Lester. Their HS years went by too fast, and now they have busy lives far away from Tipton County.

When I go antiquing, I miss my mother. She and I had many happy excursions together. There are reminders of her every day. Sometimes the feelings are so intense that I long to go back in time.

Changes. Acceptance. Peace.

A Visit With Me

 from our yard a view of cornfields and a red barn

Come in and stay awhile.

 Have been glancing back through simple journaling and art notebooks...

I remain shy about sharing art attempts.
Also feel the same about sharing my poems of long ago.
But it's now or never. Here are two without titles.

Thoughts of you come to me
when I least expect
On a crowded bus
In a secondhand shop
At a matinee
Painful thoughts too dear to ignore
Stuffed-away thoughts
like old outgrown clothes
that push into my workaday world
Thoughts of you come and refuse to go
They linger

inside, protected and secure but
desirous, are feelings
Fragile-firm, sensitive-strong
They long to burst forth
like the sun at dawn
with fiery force.
Suppressed within
awaiting release
before all tenderness dies. . .

Journal pages and a poem

In high school and college I loved poetry...even writing a few poems of my own. I typed them and kept them tucked away...for fear others might laugh at my attempts to write what I felt so deeply. Now many years later they transport me back to my youth ...to the beginning of what was to come. I'm sharing the one below.

one me says come out
be free, young, foolish
the other me says no
silly girl
be sweet, safe, sensible
I say merge you two
that's the real me.
