Holiday Touches

Well, this is another post of Christmas decorating. Hope you enjoy. I sure have enjoyed getting the house Christmasy for the soon- to-be celebration with family this year. 

This sweet Christmas scene was a Goodwill find. I have past memories of cutting down a live tree for the holidays.

A thrift store in Munford had this snowman for $2.50. I took off the wrapped box that was glued to it and added the glass tree in its place. It may not be old, but it has a vintage look. He's kicking up one leg and proudly lifting the small decorated tree.

Art Find

 Whenever I browse at the local Goodwill I check out vases and jars, books, and of course my favorite, the picture aisle with frames and art. 

Have been changing things around here at home. Also working on some fall decorative arrangements. Plus deciding where some art pieces will go. My kind of relaxation.

Remember these green boxes on my desk shelf that held a collection of bookmarks...

well, I was elated to find another set.  They look different in my photos, but they are alike. 

I tucked handwritten messages inside these.

Hard To Imagine

 I can't imagine how horrible it must be to see whole towns wiped out by fires and to lose everything. Plus the terrible tragedy of losing family members. Will the turmoil of 2020 ever stop?

I'm going to shift gears and share little bits of daily joy.

These two succulents on the front porch are thriving much to my amazement.

I was unable to leave this statue behind at Goodwill. It was a lovely find for four dollars. Although made of light material and not old, it still spoke to me. I noticed the folds of her garment, her hands, the tender embrace and expression.

Did some painting on familiar themes of little houses and country churches.

Starting to pull out autumn decor...love the colors in these pumpkins. They were made last year by a sweet friend.

Paintings, Mine and Others

One of my favorite subjects to paint is angels. I know there are angels above as well as here on earth. I have encountered a few earthly ones who came to my rescue. Some angels are invisible. Some are not. 

I have a painting that I want to get framed. I have no idea who did this scene, but I think it's wonderful.

I think I have a country theme going on in this guest bedroom.

Once framed, it will go in the empty space above the large picture.

Dollar Deals

I find it hard to resist little things that only cost a dollar. Not the Dollar Tree variety, but Goodwill bargains. I do believe it is the thrill of the hunt. It's never knowing what you will find in the junky bins.

After digging out a chunk of candle wax, I have a new gold pencil holder near the telephone.

This greenish container had Canada imprinted on the bottom.

It reminds me of a beehive.

Now other great deals are tin cans. When the wrapper comes off 

salmon cans, a wonderful green shade is underneath. These make great flower vases, paintbrush holders, pencil cans, etc.

I spend peaceful hours over in the studio room.

A Special Box

Someone's birthday is on Sunday. If you read my blog on a regular basis, I'm sure you can guess who's going to get this as one of his birthday gifts.

Surprisingly this unique box came from the Goodwill store. It looked as though it had never been used. The main reason I enjoy shopping at thrift stores and antique shops is that you never know what you will find. Some of my favorite paintings, pottery pieces, and picture frames were found in this way. 

Sunday Paintings

On Sunday I happened upon a Sunday Painting. And the price was a steal! In one of my simple journaling notebooks I had saved a clipping from the July/August 1999 Country Home magazine. It mentioned the charm of amateur paintings. Of course, I agree they are charming and am always thrilled when I spot one to my liking.
