Charms

This book (which I finished today) will make you think about charms. My high school charm bracelet will always be special to me, but now I find myself wishing I had another one for my later adult years. In this novel the following charms are featured

  1. half-heart
  2. dragonfly
  3. sewing machine
  4. kite
  5. puzzle piece
  6. loon
  7. ice cream cone
  8. snowflake
  9. shooting star
  10. mustard seed
  11. tiara
  12. book
You would have to read the book to know the meaning and significance of these charms. It's an enjoyable story about three generations.

I glanced back inside this notebook to find these two pages.

In an old post I shared my charm bracelet and my mother's. See the label charm bracelet for three past posts.

Wistful Wednesday

Not too long ago Susan Branch had a blog entry about sentimental charm bracelets...how they can be a scrapbook of our lives. I have two bracelets, my mother's and mine. The discovery I made was that I didn't know about a few of the charms. In the case of my bracelet, I was able to look through some old journal pages from 1966 and learn who gave me the Class of 66 charm and why I bought a wishbone and a pilot wheel.

My mother's bracelet will forever retain a mystery or two. I never thought to document charms until recently. I have taken  pages in my Simple Journaling notebook to tell about both chains of tokens.

Stories Behind a Few Charms

Wow! To be sixteen again and know what I know now. Things might have worked out a little differently. Looking at my charm bracelet brought back quite a few memories. Two special friends shared those times with me. We are still close.

On a boating trip my dad taught my friend Mary how to water ski. She bought the charm that had two skis and divided the skis. Her bracelet has one ski, and mine has the other to commemorate that day of fun.

When my family moved after my high school graduation my friend Mary wanted me to have a charm that would signify her so I could carry her memory with me wherever I went. I love "Mary " in the little red dress. We are still buddies after all these years.

The Lord's Prayer charm was given to me by Margaret who still calls me "sis" even though she has two sisters. Marg was my comical pal who had a serious side, too. She is having some health problems right now and needs prayers.

I dearly loved my pink Princess phone...many hours were spent talking to my girlfriends...about boys, exams, ballgames, and the future. I won't bore you with all my charm stories, but thought you wouldn't mind a few.

Wondering

I was wondering if I had a charm bracelet for this stage of my life, what significant charms would grace my arm. Maybe a flowerpot, paintbrush, book, globe, cross...
