Tired of Rain

Thank goodness for books, painting, and March basketball games. I'm sitting at the computer table in the guest bedroom and thought I'd dash off a quick post.

I should be getting tired of flower paintings, but I'm not.

One more birdbath and I'll have a collection.
I have moved these together for now on top of the chest.
So ready to try out some different arrangements come Spring.

Happy Weekend!

Holding Back

I really want to start bringing out all the lovely trinkets and decorations for Christmas. However, I'm waiting. But today I did move things around in one of the guest bedrooms and tried out three small objects in the child's play cabinet.

I am sure I will experiment with displays many times before finalizing them.
Looking through magazines and viewing Pinterest and Instagram posts usually sparks ideas, but since I plan to use what I already have, it will be hard to come up with fresh looks. We shall see...

Meanwhile there's Thanksgiving to enjoy and blessings to remember.

Happy wishes for a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Little by Little

I am improving little by little, thanks to Robitussin 12 Hour Cough Relief. Sleeping better is helping me to get my strength back. Still loving my slipper socks. I'm modeling the other pair today. Had to show off their cute message.

I'm at the computer in the guest bedroom.

Under the glass dome are two special books. My mother mentioned to me many times about her love of the book Lorna Doone. One of her teachers read it aloud in class. Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre were favorites of mine in high school.

Years ago after the births of my children I gave this paperback volume to my mother, and thankfully she filled out every page with her personal information and thoughts.

It's a treasure to see her handwriting on every page.

  Stay warm and well.

Trading Places

It's amazing how one change can make a big difference. We are still getting used to the new look in the bedroom where we have the computer. The pillows on the bed were once sofa pillows in the living room. The low cane table left our bedroom to hold extra blankets in this one.

I tend to spend time in January trying to
find places for different items. I have already
moved the blue dish off the dresser and am
trying out other things.

I like small brass objects so I decided to line them up on this bedroom windowsill.

That's my puttering post for tonight. Hope you're warm and cozy on this cold January evening.

Peaceful Days

The nativity is prominently displayed. The tree is decorated.
The holiday vignettes are in place. Christmas cards are
mailed. Most shopping errands are done.

Therefore, I am relishing these remaining days of quiet. Soon there will be out-of-town family members and a great deal more noise and activity. But oh, I am so thankful for family, friends, and home.

Sadly I dropped and broke this Santa figurine. Repaired him but the tiny bear in the stocking is minus one ear.

These small treasures on the writing desk shelves have big memories attached to them. The green boxes on the center shelf are new, thanks to a birthday
gift card to Hobby Lobby from Olga.

I have enjoyed sitting at this desk and addressing cards while listening to Christmas tapes. That's my old Panasonic cassette recorder from school days on the floor.

We moved Mother's bedroom suite into the extra bedroom/computer room.
The twin bed was put in storage. Jo took the bookcase/desk unit to his house for Gunner's room. The idea to pile old bulbs around the squirrel came from someone I follow on Instagram(kelly.elko) With Pinterest, Instagram, blogs, decorating magazines and books there's a continuous supply of holiday ideas.
But the main problem I have is limited space for the layers of goodness.

Stay warm.
Be thankful.
Anticipate Christmas joys.
Keep traditions.
Believe in the miracle of His birth.

Color Combinations

Such a beautiful day!
Outside I'm loving purple and pink .

Inside I'm into blues and greens.

This planter came from Hobby Lobby, thanks to a Christmas gift card I wanted to use up. Not sure what kind of houseplant will go into it.

These books were picked from a Goodwill Bargain Center pile because of the colors and handsome spines.

I had the nest with brown eggs, but found the gray bird on a recent thrifting day.

April has been the perfect month for colors.
Wish the flowers could last forever.

Rearranging

I'm off to a slow start in 2010. My mind has been preoccupied about decisions regarding my mother. Soon her rehabilitation days will end. Nursing home care is being discussed. Twenty-four hour supervision is the recommendation due to her age, weak bones, and Alzheimer's. To take my mind off this heartbreaking situation, I putter here at home and rearrange objects. I find this sort of decorating activity relaxing. Now to today's bargain - Marked down Better Homes and Gardens pillows at Walmart for five dollars. I chose two matching green ones to use in the guest bedroom.
