My Place of Escape

It's only a few steps away from the main house, but it takes me to a place of peace, a creative environment, my own getaway.

To my most recent angel I added a light dusting of fine white glitter to the upper part of the wings. You would have to see it in person to notice the glitter.

I have filled three art notebooks and am working on a fourth. Once in a while I am pleased with a page.

And I have this notebook to keep memories of art pieces and the persons who liked them.

The idea for this picture came from another artist. I painted over my first attempt. My husband couldn't believe I had done that since he had really liked it. So I painted the girl again and decided to leave it.

And Baby Makes Three

On March 5, 2021, Lauren and Justin welcomed Tallulah Grace into the world.

I'm leaning toward a nickname already - Tally. We shall see which affectionate name sticks. Mother and baby are at the hospital for a few more days. Feeling very thankful.

Just a Note or Two

Every now and then the thrifting or antiquing bug strikes. So I don my mask and keep a safe distance while browsing the aisles. Recently I found this kneeling girl sculpture. She was holding a bird in her hands. I circled around several times before deciding to get it. I have no idea about its age. I really don't care if something is old or new as long as it speaks to me.

Every now and then there's the urge to paint. Usually I change an abstract several times before I come to its completion. Layer upon layer gets added as I repaint it over and over.

"leave your troubles behind"

Tonight I'll be reading more pages of a  Nicholas Sparks book that I came across at Goodwill. The previous owner had a pretty book plate inside the book.

Snowy Days

The snow is melting. Such a lovely sight, but I'm glad the weather event is over.

During the snowy days inside I turned to art.

So glad a technician came and checked our computer service. After changing out the modem it's working much better. I admit I missed Facebook and Instagram.

So happy with this week's forecast of milder and warmer days.

Little Bits of Happiness

Happy to get my first vaccine.

Happy to be inside on this wintry day.

Happy to have reached the letter W in the Tuesday Instagram alphabet challenge.
I posted Willow Tree for my entry. Love these figures for their simplicity and beauty as they convey powerful emotions.

"Heart and Soul" is a special one in my collection.

Happy to mail some art tags I had made.

Happy to post today and wish you a Happy Valentine's Day on Sunday.

Days of Dreams

When I was in high school a model named Colleen Corby was often on magazine covers like Seventeen, 'TEEN, and ingenue. With her lovely figure, gorgeous face, and perfect hair, she was the ideal teenager, causing a lot of us to feel very inferior. It was tough comparing oneself to this beauty. Somehow everyone gets through the teen years without too many lasting scars.

The reason I'm remembering the teenage years and those magazines is because of a poem I once read in one of those issues. I do not know the author of these few lines, but they have stayed with me always.

"Dreams are funny,

they melt all up

like Mother's sugar

in her coffee cup."

The above words are true. I have realized some of my dreams, but certainly not all. Dreams tend to fade away. And as you age, you accept that some will never be.

Of course, I love the words of Langston Hughes, too.

"Hold fast to dreams

For if dreams die

Life is a broken-winged bird

That cannot fly.

Hold fast to dreams

For when dreams go

Life is a barren field

Frozen with snow."
