Thursday Tidings
a favorite thing
Why?
the birds all around the platter
I don't usually save wine bottles, but the face on this one made it a keeper.
A mother's love is like no other.
It is already Thursday, and I'm wondering how can that be. I keep wishing time would slow down, but maybe the problem is me and not managing my time correctly. Of course, I spend a part of every day at the nursing home with my mother. January has been a difficult month due to decisions regarding her health. Due to Alzheimer's she hasn't been able to remember that she broke her hip, underwent surgery, and needed rehab. My brother, husband, and I had to reach and accept the conclusion that the staff at the nursing home could better provide the 24-hour supervision required for her safety and care. But it's one of the toughest issues I've ever faced.

Warm Glow
Just a quick hello before I prop my feet up and watch a couple of TV shows. It's wonderful to have a home. I'm so fond of these two overhead light fixtures. They provide light, coziness, and recollections. The top one I kept from my first home...my dream house...too bad that dream fell apart. The second one was chosen by the builders of my present home...Uncle Jim and Aunt Geneva would be happy to know it's still burning brightly.

On Display
This vintage frame was purchased with an old postcard inside.
easel stand for a small oil painting made from a photograph
a Tracy Porter picture frame
Displaying pictures is one of my favorite things to do. I am always searching for unusual frames.
The people in the poses may have changed, but the pictures have saved precious moments in time.

Time Travel
a house that causes me to look every time I go by
three sweet bottles
plate on old wooden trunk in den
unique rock sculpture given to me by my brother
Andrea's recipe inspired me to make a pineapple upside down cake. Her blog is Deep Fried Cupcake. She's listed in my favorite blogs.
a favorite print...love the creek, the children's clothing, and the gentle assistance
The days of January are clipping by at a fast pace. If I didn't write in my journal, these so-called ordinary days would be lost forever. I write often of my mother, saving tidbits of conversation, memory clips, and fluctuating moods. Oh, if I could turn back time, I would put her back in her prime, and I would be there, too, enjoying every moment.

Read and Escape
I love a good book! To lose oneself in a well-written book is bliss...especially when your own life is taking some bumps and bruises. Certain passages jump out at you and stay in your mind. One such passage was in Just Breathe by Susan Wiggs.
"I'm still drawing," Sarah admitted. "I have a syndicated comic strip, but I get my inspiration from my own life these days, not other people's."
"Good for you." Birdie shook her head. "Some people spend their whole lives filled with regrets about stuff that went on in high school. I've always wondered why that is. It's just four years. Four lousy years in a life that can span a century. Why do people get so fixated on those four little years?"
"Good question," Sarah said quietly.
I just finished A Wedding in December by Anita Shreve. A couple of passages talked about "the nonstories." One line says, "The woman you didn't meet because she couldn't get a taxi to the party you had to leave early from," ... The novel focuses on unions and reunions ... choices made and the fascination with those not followed. I have started Light On Snow by Anita Shreve. The first fifty-nine pages have allowed that wonderful escape I need.

Rearranging
I'm off to a slow start in 2010. My mind has been preoccupied about decisions regarding my mother. Soon her rehabilitation days will end. Nursing home care is being discussed. Twenty-four hour supervision is the recommendation due to her age, weak bones, and Alzheimer's. To take my mind off this heartbreaking situation, I putter here at home and rearrange objects. I find this sort of decorating activity relaxing. Now to today's bargain - Marked down Better Homes and Gardens pillows at Walmart for five dollars. I chose two matching green ones to use in the guest bedroom.
