September Slips Away

While waiting for an appointment, I admired this wall art.
I noticed the tree first and then the birds.

This art canvas I was able to bring home and hang in a high spot in the kitchen. Love the word, colors, and simplicity. It was a shopping find at Marshalls.

Yesterday was another shopping day with a friend. The Les Passees Stock Exchange had tons of stuff to view, and Bartlett's Antique Gallery had sales in many booths.

That golden tan color captures my heart every time.
I'm unable to pass it up if the price is within my means.

Friends are celebrating an anniversary tomorrow so these tags went to the post office this morning.

Fall is here!

 September 2015 did not stay long. But thankfully it has been a beautiful time.

A Hint of Blue

I didn't realize we had touches of blue in our master bedroom until I purchased a small table lamp for reading.

Cream, brown, and black are the principal colors in the bedroom. These snatches of blue were a nice discovery after adding the lamp.

Evening Notes

I am drawn to architectural pieces. I have two in prominent places in our home. Recently I spotted this one at an antique store and wanted it, but talked
myself out of it. But it might still be there...I might weaken.

 This old rocking chair belongs to son JoJo.
It makes me think of a high school poem I once wrote.
Bravely sharing my poem tonight...

The Old Man

 In his familiar rocker
                                                           on the front porch
                                                           sat
                                                           the old man.
                                                           The back and forth
                                                           motion
                                                           ceased.
                                                           Memories from the past
                                                           flooded his mind,
                                                           and the past
                                                           became present
                                                           as he relived
                                                           sweet and painful experiences of childhood;
                                                           tender moments of first love;
                                                           trying steps into manhood;
                                                           intimacy of marriage;
                                                           and
                                                           pride of parenthood.
                                                           Returning
                                                           to the present
                                                           he found it
                                                           meaningless;
                                                           lonely;
                                                           empty.
                                                           In his familiar rocker
                                                           on the front porch
                                                           died
                                                           the old man.

Friday night we experienced an exciting game between Munford and Southwind. A record of four straight wins has pumped up enthusiasm
for the football season. Also there's excitement for the band that has an invitation to the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade.

When I attend high school games, I miss Lauren and Lester. Their HS years went by too fast, and now they have busy lives far away from Tipton County.

When I go antiquing, I miss my mother. She and I had many happy excursions together. There are reminders of her every day. Sometimes the feelings are so intense that I long to go back in time.

Changes. Acceptance. Peace.

Changing of the Seasons

Fall is the perfect time to try out some new vignettes.

Thought I would like this Pinterest idea with wooden bowl and pine cones for the dining table, but after a few days I changed back to teapot and napkin holder.

faithful decorations out of storage

Brown, green, gold, and rust are predominant colors year round at our place.

I remember these shadow boxes were popular in the 70's.

Gee, I miss that decade!
 For me it meant
 first job,
 first apartment,
 first love,
 first dream
 home, and
 first baby.

But as we all know life brings changes...some better, some worse. It's a journey worth living in spite of rough bumps and unexpected curves.

Grandparent's Day

Corkey and I enjoyed our visit with Lucas. I snapped pictures to save the day. Little ones are little for such a short time.

Doughnuts and drinks were served outdoors on the patio area near the library.

September Is Underway

Labor Day was an enjoyable holiday with family and friends. A nice crowd gathered at the Quito Community Center to have barbecue and lots of
"bring a dish" sides.

*****

Having objects out so you can see and enjoy them is what makes decorating  personal and interesting.

 This is one of the first rocks I ever saved.
It reminded me of a shoe sole.

  I used a marker to make my smiley rock.

 The left and right stones were purchases.

This rock came from a friend's driveway and looks a little like a heart.

 time to decorate for fall

I believe everyone is ready for cooler temperatures. Fall is a favorite time of the year for many, including me.
