Small Talk

Another week has sped by, and another month is coming to a close. Yipes! Time seems to be moving way too fast. I haven't much news to share...just wanted you to know I haven't forgotten you or my blog. If you are here, thanks for checking on my whereabouts.

Most of my time is spent here at home or driving into town to see my mother. Recently I read a newspaper article about Alzheimer's, and it used the phrase "the long goodbye." My journal entries reveal the number of years I've watched the sad decline of my once dynamic mother. I'm sure there are lessons for me to learn from this experience. Maybe to keep giving love and understanding, to keep treasuring every day.

Art continues to lift my spirits. I did the simple picture above this week. For some reason it makes me feel happy.

I wish you well. Thanks again for coming by.

Sweetest Visitors

Sometimes it's easier to let photos do the talking. But I will say this. Brooklyn and Elli-J couldn't have been any sweeter. Both were playful, affectionate, and delightful.

One highlight of their visit was the discovery of four precious kittens. The mama cat finally revealed the hiding place for her family. Brooke and the girls chose the little black one to take home to Kentucky.

The Pleasure of Your Company

There's a cake in the oven. The house is semi-clean. And company is coming around noon. I'm excited.

Some people you encounter secure a place in your heart from that very first meeting. She is one of those. Our ages are far apart, but that doesn't seem to matter.

Hope her two little girls will enjoy our home where there's an abundance of books and toys. May they feel comfortable around us, too.

Snatches of Time

Reading, journaling, making art, and decorating are among my pastimes. Sometimes it's necessary to carve out portions of time to do them. In today's mail there was the June issue of Country Living. The best part was the article by Mary Randolph Carter. What soothing minutes of reading about collecting and decorating tips!

One Mother's Day gift was a hardback copy of Gone Girl. I'm only on page seventy, but these first chapters have me hooked. Must squeeze in more time to read.

Gorgeous morning provided soothing time outside to water plants, fill birdbaths, and pull some weeds. Later I strolled around with my camera.

Precious time...I hope you are finding time to do the things you love, to be with those you love.

A Very Special Surprise

A road trip to Plano, Texas, became a Mother's Day weekend of memories.

Lester and Pennee have an apartment that is within walking distance of the shops. Dining and shopping are only a few steps away.

Lauren drove to Plano from Austin so we could all be together Saturday and Sunday.

It was wonderful to spend time with our two precious  granddaughters.

After a delightful visit we made our way north to TN.

Good to view the Memphis skyline from our moving car letting us know we were almost home.

May Surprises

We had an enjoyable night at a recent auction at the community center. There was a nice mix of old and new items. My husband surprised me by bidding on a large candle holder.

The other selection we carried home was a magazine rack.
My plans are to paint it for the booth.

There have been plenty of surprises in the garden. The iris blooms have been especially striking.

 We like our garden spaces.

I'm fond of the little figures in the garden.

Latest blooms are the
exquisite peonies.

And a final surprise for this post happened over in the art studio. Taking an old book cover, an eraser, paint, and a few buttons...

...a simple picture that's a happy creation.

Hope you will come again. I have another May surprise that I'm saving until next time. Talk to you soon.

On An Impulse

Sometimes you take a chance. I couldn't pass up this bench for our porch. It has been in a two-m0nth lay-a-way. Here it is waiting for me to pick it up and bring it home.

Today was the day! It came home in my Jeep. Next will be a fresh coat of paint. Placed a few things in my booth due to the new month.

I'm glad magnets are still popular. I make these and usually sell some each month.

May is off to a beautiful start with sunshine, breezes, blooms, birds, and blessings.
