To Be Six

It was fun gathering
six items for Nicolas's sixth
birthday. In addition to
two action figures, there
was a beginning-t0-read
book, a Crayola set of
colored pencils, ABC mug
with pencils and sharpener,
and a miniature chest
that opened to reveal a
a check for his bank account.

For now he's SIX, and AWESOME.

Book Magic

Scouring the shelves of our local bookstore I took a chance on a book I knew nothing about except for the cover comments. I became one delighted reader on this twenty chapter journey. One reason I may have liked it so much is because of "an old diary that mysteriously links the past to the present." There were twists and turns in this bittersweet tale.

Getting away from my world and entering theirs...that's the magic of books.

Even knowing the ending I think I want to reread this "intriguing dual story line."

Having a Sale

Spent some time at the booth, rearranging and posting a  sale sign. A peek at a few things...

Everything in the booth is 20% off during August.

In Search of Treasures

One of the best things about a blog is sharing "what makes your heart flutter."  For me that's searching for items to add to the booth and also seeking out personal objects for decorating here at home. Sometimes after living with pieces for a while, I make the decision to part with them,
so that they become merchandise for the booth.

I stumbled across this figurine for one dollar at a flea market. On the bottom was "Made in Occupied Japan." Because the angel figure was playing a violin, it made me think of my father. He used to play that instrument as well as the banjo and mandolin.

This tiny heart candlestick was another dollar bargain from Goodwill. I hung a tag from it and don't plan to add a candle.

Another little inexpensive find
was this 2002 Williamsburg decorative
message.

This was my largest purchase in size (18x22) and cost ($3).

A story goes with this purchase. There was a huge pile of framed pictures. Most did not have a price. I took this one up to the front desk and inquired about prices. He asked   how much I wanted to pay for it. I told him I was after a real bargain and hesitated before offering the low figure of three dollars.  The tree made me smile when I first saw it, and the price did, too!

Happy Moments

Sometimes my mother is sleepy or tired or lost in her own world. But there are times when she is pleasant, affectionate, and humorous. We had some fun moments this past week as I tried to hold the camera steady with my outstretched arm to capture a few memories.

Days of Quiet

A homebody is what I have been for several days.

Reading has been a part of my quiet days. I enjoyed Icy Sparks by Gwyn Hyman Rubio and Friends Forever by Danielle Steel. These were two paperbacks I came across, and they proved to be good summer reads. The book Jesus Calling was a gift and has proven to be a real joy. I read from it each morning. This devotional is by Sarah Young and gives a message for every day of the year. She writes in the introduction, "These messages are meant to be read slowly, preferably in a quiet place. I invite you to keep a journal to record any thoughts or impressions you receive as you wait in His Presence. Remember that Jesus is Emmanuel, God with us. May He bless you with His Presence and Peace in ever-increasing measure."

Wishing you comfort and peace,
Sandy

Back to School

School starts next week for Garrett, Gunner, and Nicolas. They have been savoring this last free week of summer vacation.

Brownies with ice cream helped them celebrate one more carefree Friday.
Nicolas stirred the mix, egg, and oil together for Duncan Hines dark chocolate fudge brownies.

Soooo good! Even I can't resist them.

Three pairs of casual shoes won't be lined up on the back door steps. I'll miss seeing that, and I'll certainly miss their owners.

Lots of crayons, pencils, and notebooks will be sold this weekend. Hopefully all kids will get off to a great start on Monday.
