Treasure Hunting

I was happy to join a friend for a day of treasure hunting. We viewed lots of booths in two antique malls, first Tricie's Treasures and then Antique Gallery.

This old handmade cradle was one of many fascinating items.

Whenever I bring something home, it usually means I have to do some rearranging. This display of dishes had to be moved from the top of the refrigerator to the piano. This Eddie Bauer HOME pitcher had colors I  liked and had two different looks to the sides.

There was an art picture that had no price. The lady asked me to make an offer. I was taken aback and admitted I had no idea. Well, after she expressed a wonderfully low price, it didn't stay on her wall but came home to mine. If I decide to keep it long term, the frame might need changing. For the time being it's over in the apartment.

Until next time, wishing you a charming journey...

Do You See What I See?

Beauty in cracks and stains...words of power...new uses for old things...moments forever captured in pictures

Have a beautiful weekend!

Hearts and Flowers

This is a magazine page I saved. Silver pieces, flower frog with 14 card, old book, old valentine postcard, flowers...it all speaks of Valentine's Day and romance.

This is the front of a card I saved due to the sweet message.

The two pictures below are magazine illustrations that I had framed a long time ago.  In my opinion both convey feelings...longing for love and finding love. Wish I knew the names of the artists.

The Pleasure of Collecting

"A collection reveals an insight into the collector. The objects that we seek,
enjoy, and display in our homes - whether they are works of fine art or
sentimental keepsakes - open a window to our passions, our whimsies, and
our lives."

I guess I like too many things, but some of my favorites are:

old croquet balls
dough bowls
candlesticks
paintings
pretty dishes
baskets
butter pats
creamers
pitchers
teapots
cups and saucers
pottery
crocks and bowls
books
figurines
and
Christmas ornaments

I'm sure I left a few things off my list, but you get the idea... I am a collector.

There is the thrill of the hunt followed by the pleasure of building a collection. It's nice to be surrounded by objects you consider beautiful or meaningful. They also become reminders of people and places.

This early find in the college town of Jackson, TN, is both beautiful and meaningful to me.

Certain pieces speak to us, and that's the joy of collecting.

Packrat Blues

Slowly but surely I'm letting go of some pictures, papers, etc. These sweet valentines are from teaching days. I wish I could save it all, but at the same time I don't want to become a hoarder. I have to decide what has the most sentimental value. It's a tough job.
