Getting Closer

Since we'll soon have house guests, I thought I'd better share a few things before it gets hectic around here.

Book photo on the left inspired me to try a similar look.

Annual Parade of Ornaments

Hanging the ornaments is such a pleasurable activity each and every Christmas. Lots of memories are connected to them. Even though I really didn't need any more, a few newcomers (the ones with notes) made it onto the tree anyway.

Due to Goody's offer (buy 1 get 2 free), I acquired the colorful words WISH and MERRY.
This ornament was the one I purchased to receive two more free.
I wanted it because the nest had seven eggs. And yeah it was 60% off!
With so many ornaments some are piled into clusters inside bowls. This group of greens and golds is on the dresser of the guest bedroom.
From Nell Hill's Christmas at Home
"An ornament holds all the loveliness of Christmas, in miniature."
"...the most valuable ornaments go beyond loveliness, straight to the heart."

Here and There

Here, there, and everywhere...a little bit of Christmas decor. Treasured items can be found at my writing desk. The book of poems was a gift from high school friend Linda Smith. Her handwritten inscription in the front is very touching since her departure came way too soon in 1994.
My close friend Mary stitched the Christmas card with the child pulling a sled. Every year I display this special card. Mary and I share a meaningful friendship that began in high school.

Bookcase in the entry always gets an overflow of personal favorites.

Little tree is decked out in mostly red, gold, and cream. This year the tree is residing over in what was Mother's apartment. Les and Pennee use the apartment when they come for the holidays.
I'll close for now. I have a load of clothes to do and lunch to prepare.

Trial and Error

One thing is true about early decorating. You get to experiment. My Merry Christmas banner did not look right anywhere I tried to suspend it. It needed more  sparkling embellishments which I never got around to doing. So I went with something different for the mirror.

Snowflakes, a couple of silver balls, and tinsel produced this look.

Merry Christmas ended up on a shelf in the utility room.
Simple kitchen garland may be my favorite.
I love decorating for Christmas, but am never completely satisfied with the decorations.  Guess I have glanced through too many magazines. Have a great day!

Peeking Inside...

Other Ten Drawers
Christmas Chest

These little treasures have been obtained in a variety of ways. Most I have had for a long time. Three I had to find recently - baby doe, puppy in stocking, and "be merry" mouse. Too bad the chest doesn't have a few more drawers. Nevertheless, I have been very happy with it. After Christmas I may use it over in the art studio to hold art supplies. Hope you have enjoyed the last two posts. I've enjoyed sharing.
