A Halloween Poem

The Jack-O'-Lantern's Song

Give me two laughing, pointed eyes,
Give me a small round nose;
Be sure I have a big wide grin
And one square tooth that shows.

Then give me a lighted candle,
Bright enough to be seen,
So I may tell the folks who pass
That it is Halloween!

Jack-O'-Lantern Carving

Wonderful designs came with this booklet.  I ordered the kit years ago. Zippy Cat, Star Witch, Moonlit Owl, and Scaredy Bat were past selections.

Zippy Cat from 2008

This year grandson Garrett and I looked online to view Halloween patterns. He liked this one called Ghostly Greeter.

Although he couldn't be with me when I did the carving, I remembered his request about the seeds.

I hope he will be pleased to see that I used his pattern choice.

October Glimpses

Hello, friends. Can you believe only a few more days of October? I want to thank another blogger for showing Halloween decorations inside frames. Be sure and visit Julie( to see holiday ideas for picture frames. Well, it's almost time for pumpkin carving... need to decide on a pattern. Time is short.

Halloween Window

Even simple cutouts were fun for the grandkids to hang on the store bought spider webs. Of course, I'm sure there are real ones in the house, too.

Old and New Memories

Light breezes and fluttering leaves made for a delightful walk this morning. During that walk I relived my pleasant hours yesterday with longtime friend Mary. We looked through scrapbooking albums, enjoyed an alfresco lunch, relaxed, and talked and talked. After viewing her amazing family albums I wanted to start a photo/journaling scrapbook of my own.

handcrafted by Mary's late father

I am the very proud owner of two of his creations.
Thank you, Mary, for these special gifts.

Right beside the flour canister and brightening up that corner
is the other birdhouse.

I wish I had pictures of Mary's lovely home. Each room is decorated with beautiful and unique objects. Because of Mary and her talents I came home wanting to decorate, create, and scrapbook. Thanks, dear friend, for the inspiration, conversation, and nourishment.

Feeling Good

There's something about fresh air and sunshine that can't be beat. Leaves are turning and  falling and piling up around the yard. I must say my walk this morning was wonderful due to perfect fall weather.

Wishing you a "feel good" week...Sandy

I bought one other Christmas ornament but decided not to show it since my daughter might read this post, and it was for her. Amazing how quickly these three special holidays- Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas- will arrive. And just as amazing how quickly they will be gone.
Happy fall shopping!

True friends have no solitary joy or sorrow.

Oh, how great to be with an old spend a few hours in each other's company...dining, talking, and shopping in Charlene's holiday paradise. Kaye and I met as young teachers and enjoyed many years as  coworkers. We shared happy events like  baby showers, our children's  birthdays, and Halloween and Christmas events. We supported each other through rough patches as well. We formed a lasting friendship, and we pledged today to connect again soon.

A Few Notes

Another week has zipped by. I have accomplished a few things. To help my mom remember key family members I put together a Who's Who photo album. I chose recent as well as some old photos and labeled them with easy-to-read name tags printed on the computer. We looked through it today, and she seemed to like it. She has realized for some time now that her memory is slipping away. My hope is that the album will offer some assurance and comfort.

A little more fall decorating...brought the girl statue back inside so I could place pumpkins on the doorstep. She's over in my art nook. I've added a cabinet to hide a bunch of art supplies. One day soon I'll take you back over there so I can show off a few changes.

I found two small fall wreaths, put them together, and hung them on the hall tree.  The postcard of the frightened boys is an old Halloween standby.

From the many pumpkins in the cardboard bin I selected these two because of their shapes and stems. I believe they're be excellent for jack-o'-lanterns later in the month.

With so many yard sales taking place outside in the perfect fall weather, store business may be down this month. Pictured below are four nice throws that I added to my booth.

I need to sign off since this session has taken me a long time because I'm still learning how to use the new editor format on Blogger. Talk again soon.

Walk With Me

On my regular walk I see familiar sights and sometimes spot a few new ones. Thanks for joining me.
