Hours

Sometimes I can't account for the hours that make up the day, the week. Sometimes I know exactly where I was and what I was doing.

After an appointment on Friday morning I had several hours to myself. I took in the Antique Gallery(special Fall Sale), Shoe Carnival, Tuesday Morning, and Marshall's. This alone time was welcomed as I casually browsed forgetting  stress and sadness due to nursing home situation.

Can't explain my fascination with this small chest at the antique mall...

liked it too much to leave it behind.

Thanks, Tuesday Morning, for having this journal.

Tonight I had the 9 to 10 hour to write a new blog post. I just heard the den clock chiming, telling me it's time to wrap up this entry and get to bed. Before I leave you, here are a few items added to Bits and Pieces.

Have a wonderful week of happy hours.

Hidden Meanings

Collages are for expression.  I wanted this one to convey childhood, the passage of time, and friendship. The W, 48, and 17 are meant to have a hidden meaning. However, they can be easily deciphered by a few dear friends.

Double Duty

This child's play cabinet was used on the mantel one Christmas.  This time it has taken on a different look as I changed some accessories to get ready for fall.

The poor little cabinet is rather dingy-looking, but I am reluctant to alter its appearance.

This highchair sits near the back door. Usually the wood bowl holds after school candy treats for the grandsons.

I'm making small changes to mark the start of a new season...

using bowls, crocks, and baskets...

a few of my favorite things.

Hunting Bargains

I'm hoping someone will come along and choose these booth items.

Recently two personal items left my booth. As crazy as it sounds I will miss the churn and egg basket. They were with me for such a long time. Oh well, I like to think that others are delighted with their finds at Booth 89. I know how excited I get when I spot something that speaks to me, and it's also within my price range.

The weather is close to perfect now with opportunities to browse festivals, flea markets, and shops. Fall to me is the best time of the year for treasure hunting.

Dust and Other Things

Sometimes I get in the mood to clean and go through stuff. My aim is to eliminate some of it. Well, I end up looking, sorting, and keeping most of it.

A box stores letters my grandmother wrote to her love, my grandfather.

She wrote many during their time apart in 1921.

I found a pressed flower inside this letter's pages.

The letters are hard to read due to her handwriting and spelling errors.
But the sweetness within them is charming.

I wonder did she have a special nook where she would compose her thoughts on paper to send to her sweetheart.

Thoughts

Still around the corner,
         there may wait,
a new road or secret gate.
                -J.R.R. Tolkien

Came across this quote this morning and thought how nice, especially for those of us who are getting older and sometimes think that all the best opportunities are behind us.

I lit a candle in remembrance of 9-11-2001. Oh, that fateful day when so many innocent lives were lost. And those other brave individuals who risked their lives to help. The memories linger...

Feel blessed today that I am able to go about my normal routine. I continue to trust in the goodness of people. I realize America, even with its serious problems, is a special country that offers freedoms and possibilities to its citizens.

And now for a few pictures that were uploaded today. They show little things here at home.

These alphabet prints that are part of the mantel's decor remain favorites.

Watching Nicolas form his constructions is always a joy. It's lovely that those
same blocks were first enjoyed by son Ryan who's now 35.

Counting my blessings,
and you are among them.

Charlotte's Web came to mind...

No messages inside this web, but it was a thing of beauty.  Son Jo had seen it on his way out the driveway one morning and called to tell me about it. Some of the large web was gone by the time I witnessed this wonder of nature.

Looking forward to the weekend because Lauren will be here for a short visit. She has no idea how much I miss her. Also miss these two little ones and Lester and Pennee.

I wish you a wonderful weekend.
Thanks for taking time to drop in on my blog.

Thanks to a new computer I'm blogging again.

Surprise Birthday Party
Pig N Whistle
August 30, 2014

Today was his actual birthday, and he was extremely busy preparing barbecue for the traditional Labor Day gathering of family and friends. He has been showered with cards and wishes and love.

My card to him had these passages:

because you let me know you completely
because you are still a mystery
because you do not wish to change me
because you have changed me forever
because you see the good and true in me
because you forgive all else in me
because you are not who i expected to love
because you are just who i need to love
because you gave me beautiful yesterdays
because you promise me beautiful tomorrows
because you asked for my hand
because i gave you my heart...
                                i love you.

                        happy birthday
