et cetera

Thursday I returned to the store that had those old red books in the previous post. I was disappointed that the booth with those red volumes had closed up shop. I strolled along all the aisles hoping that the booth owner had moved to another location. No such luck, but I did find something I needed after seeing the iPad holder that Mamie Jane had shown on her blog. Check out her clever design at http://mamiejanes.blogspot.com/. A cutting board - unused and still wrapped in cellophane - was my good luck find for two dollars. Dear husband offered to assemble board, scrabble rack, and building block for me. Planning to paint the tablet holder next week.

I made another stop at Plantation Antiques to check my own booth.

At home I changed a few decorations on my kitchen windowsill.  Of course, that meant I had to find new places for those things I removed from the window ledge.

This tiny iron bird usually rests on a small green striped pitcher on the windowsill. For now  it is perched  on top of a wooden candlestick.

Old Books

 Old books

have such

beauty.

Therefore, decorating with them just makes sense.

The Calendar Says Spring

Has spring arrived? It doesn't feel like it outside. There's a chilling wind today and a cold weather forecast for later in the week. I stepped outside to look around at the yard and flowerbeds and spied a few early sightings of spring color.

Now to the inside...

Does she stay inside or go to the garden?

Our "nest" keeps us comfortable in every season. I feel so blessed to have a home with treasured objects. Our nest is empty now that the kids are grown. But now and then I miss those hectic-filled days of homework, ballgames, meals, and noise.

Paint and a Key

But what a lovely combination in the right hands! I saw this hanging in a booth and was moved by its simplicity and beauty.

For now it's hanging from the memo board over in the studio.  I  am thrilled with it and its meaning to me.

Over in the Studio

One of my favorite pastimes is searching for art that appeals to me... looking for forgotten art that someone felt compelled to do. My most recent art find came from Goodwill for five dollars. I really think it is worth much more than that.

Artist and Date Unknown

I like how the man is sitting...maybe resting, thinking, or just looking out the window.

I inspected the back for a name or date, and this is what I found - more art. Both sides of the canvas had been used.

It has been weeks since I have been over to this work space area I affectionately call a "studio." For fun I decided to do something I saw on Pinterest...using old dictionary pages to create a little bit of art.

Here the apple green paint is drying. Goodbye old brown boring frame.

Here is a colored pencil drawing on a dictionary page. I borrowed the flower and bird design.

Before I close here's a poem I want to share.

DAYS
Karle Wilson Baker

Some days my thoughts are just cocoons-all cold, and
          dull, and blind,
They hang from dripping branches in the grey woods of my
           mind;

And other days they drift and shine-such free and flying
            things!
I find the gold-dust in my hair, left by their brushing wings.
