Treasure Hunting

A trip to the antique mall is the perfect place to go on a rainy day (or on any kind of day). Numerous booths offer so much to view. My friend Linda and I had eye strain by the end of our outing.
These sewing drawers held swatches of fabric.

This needlepoint doll picture showed lots of work.

My eye always goes to stained glass pieces.

I could picture this wire basket holding white towels in the guest bath.

The curved window frame on the yellow wall had been turned into a memo board. I really wanted to bring it home until I read the price tag.

Linda is fond of vintage hats. Although she passed on the hats today, she found three architectural sketches of charming two-story homes by the same artist.
The matting and frames alone were worth the asking price. She got a great deal!

This scissorcut was really nice.

Our second stop was at Tuesday Morning where I found this green and tan box and the tassel below.

Special Hours

On Saturday I met my friend Kaye for shopping, lunch, and more shopping. Of course, the whole time we were talking...catching up on each other's lives and reminiscing about the days when we were young teachers and young mothers.

Today I have been reliving those hours and thinking about all the things I forgot to ask or share. But most of all I have been thinking about the blessing of this special friend.

At a flea market we visited I bought this book for three dollars. It has 349 pages packed with old illustrations, poems, excerpts from stories and plays, entries from letters and journals, recipes, and songs. Below is a quote from this little big book.

Life has  taught me that love
does not consist of gazing at
each other but looking together
in the same direction.
- Antoine de Saint Exupery

Son Jo did this pencil sketch of Cork and me years ago.

Juicy

I hate to admit this but sometimes I forget the content of a book I have already read.  I was shocked that I had forgotten the dark romance between March and Hollis. Here on Earth was an enjoyable reread. The other paperback I picked up recently at a booth at Open Marketplace. It turned out to be a quick read with a compelling love story. Worthy goal: an apple a day for the body and a book a day for the mind.

A Favorite Thing

 Sewing Machine Drawers

This first one sits on top of the refrigerator. It is a nice way to display special dishes. The drawer and green plates belonged to my mother.

The front is handsome, too.

This drawer is holding loose photos. The
old knob shows a lot of wear.

This last one holds three rolls of extra
 tissue in the guest bathroom.

I like being able to use pieces from the past.
Do you have a favorite old possession?

More Snow

This afternoon snow coated trees, roads, and yards producing a picturesque winter scene. I spent a  considerable amount of  time watching snowflakes swirl and fall. From the computer room window I snapped this picture of one visitor during the snowfall. Garrett, Gunner, and Nicolas were our other visitors who didn't mind one bit that schools had closed.

Three Fun Tools

SCRAPSSTICKERS, and STAMPS

With scissors and glue the fun begins.
Some sort of tie gives a finishing touch.
Tags are simple, but, oh, so sweet!

The Month of Love

I turned my calendar to February,

Romantic Homes/February 2007

browsed through some old February magazines, found inspiration,

and put four circular flower frogs to work.
Letters were cut from a greeting card.
