It's Snowing!

What a surprise this morning! Big flakes are falling, and the ground is getting a light dusting of snow. I've enjoyed the past few days decorating the house for Christmas. I had help from two of my sons. Les who was home for Thanksgiving
assembled the tree the Friday morning of his flight back to Los Angeles. On Saturday afternoon Jo added strands of lights and the lighted ornaments. I finished decorating with all the other ornaments. I also had two little helpers... grandsons Gunner and Nicolas. I can't believe the tree is up and very festive looking. This was the easiest time I've ever had with the tree.

I wish you happy decorating. I'm sure you'll see familiar decorations as well as a few new ones as I post in the days ahead.

Our Thanksgiving Table

The dining table is set for tomorrow's meal. Actually it's two tables put together to accomodate our large family.

Thanksgiving is a perfect time for my favorite colors of rust, gold, and brown.

Warm Feelings

It was an amazing feeling to fill shoeboxes for a boy and a girl somewhere in the world...wonder whose little hands will open each box and enjoy some holiday happiness from all the goodies packed inside. This church project has been  a  heartwarming experience as the vestibule filled with stacks of shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child.

Today was my mom's 88th birthday. What a blessing of love, guidance, and support she has been!

A Return to Tags

When my friend Nancy asked me a question about making tags, it  was motivation to get back to something I really enjoy. Birds continue to be one of my favorite themes.

The piece at the bottom of this tag is a snippet from the drawstring of a potato sack. Using little bits and pieces is part of the fun of tag art.

Thanks for your visit. Your stopping by means a lot to me.

Change of Purpose

The brass leaf on the mirror wasn't always this shiny and pretty. It once sat on the edge of a kitchen sink and was a resting spot for a rusty pot scrubber. With a little Brasso it took on a whole new look.  The leaf belonged to my mother. I wonder if she would like the change. Probably not.

Loving Autumn

Autumn Leaves
by Aileen Fisher

One of the nicest beds I know
isn't a bed of soft white snow,
isn't a bed of cool green grass
after the noisy mowers pass,
isn't a bed of yellow hay
making me itch for half a day -
but autumn leaves in a pile that high,
deep, and smelling like fall, and dry.
That's the bed where I like to lie
and watch the flutters of fall go by.

Gathering Gold
by Katherine Edelman

I walked through autumn woods today;
I cupped my hands along the way;
Great trees shook down rich coins of gold.
More than my two small hands could hold.

It's no wonder that this is a favorite season. This week's mild weather was such a pleasure. Cleaning out flowerbeds caked with leaves and thinning out overgrown or dead plants didn't seem like chores. And sharing a pretty fall day with a three-year-old is true bliss.

Still Here

Sometimes you can stumble across the oddest little treasures at Dollar Tree.

closet desk with personal mementos including new little quotebook

I wanted to pop in and say hello before too many more days went by...doing some of the usual...exercising, visiting my mom, pricing items to take by the booth, and trying to squeeze in some art/craft time. Time management must not be one of my strong points. Each day passes before I have accomplished what I hoped to do. Hoping you are having better luck than me...until next time.

Quiet Time

I am trying not to think about the approaching holidays but to enjoy this quiet lull of early November.

I was surprised to see the Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, featured in the latest Victoria magazine.  It brought back lovely images of my visit there this summer. I'm sure an autumn visit would be spectacular.

I find myself spending time in the living room....writing at my desk, reading in an easy chair, or just sitting quietly.

I've been at it again - rearranging! This time
trying out the lamp and clock (taken from the guest bedroom) on the end tables in the living room...oh, well, it prompts me to do a little dusting and cleaning.

Love this date!

On this day in 1978 I experienced wonder and love as son Ryan was born. Thirty-two years later his birthday brings back all the joy and excitement of that momentous day. Although we live far apart the modern marvel of cell phones enabled us to talk today and share some precious minutes. That's my personal reason for loving this date.

It was also a great feeling to vote today.  I'll be watching election returns later tonight.

Halloween decorations are back in storage so I've been rearranging objects.

.

Thanks for your November visit. Come again.
